“Late Summer is considered a separate season in traditional Chinese medicine. In the middle of the Chinese calendar, Late Summer is a transition time when we return to the middle, between the expansive growth of spring and summer (yang energy) and the more inward energy of fall and winter (yin energy). It has been said that it’s almost as if time stops for a moment much like the instant when a pendulum reverses its swing.”

We are so grateful for the conversations that we were able to have and the wonderful guests who shared their story and expertise this summer on the theme of intimacy and sexual health. If you have not yet tuned in to Season 6 (or any of the seasons), find episodes here.
AND, we would love your thoughts as we start planning our next season! Are there topics that you would like to hear more discussion on? Or guests that you would like to suggest? If so, let us know!
TASTE: The Science of Savoring. When it comes to enjoying your food, the ‘how’ might be as important as the ‘what.’ The Oxford English Dictionary defines savoring as, “In modern use, to taste with relish, to dwell on the taste of, also figuratively, to give oneself to the enjoyment or appreciation of.” With eating, the enjoyment is both figurative and literal because it is not a simple act. “People don’t eat nutrition; they eat food,” says registered dietitian and wellness and nutrition expert Tamara Melton. “They’re looking for flavors, textures, temperatures, sounds. Pleasure hormones in our brains get turned on once we start eating.” (speaking of savoring + coming off the heels of the Olympics and the new season of Emily in Paris, we are eyeing up Rebekah Peppler’s Menu for a South of France Dinner Party!)
SEE: Inside the Mind of Missy Elliott. For nearly three decades, the music of Missy Elliott has been inextricably linked to unforgettable images. Elliott, 53, has stretched the boundaries of what a rapper can look and sound like, but she had somehow never headlined a proper tour — until now. Her current arena show is in many ways the culmination of a 30-year project, remixing her trademark work into a career-spanning revue. We LOVED this visually interactive article where the the pioneering artist breaks down the inspirations for her tour.
SMELL: 11 Ways to Make Your Laundry Smell Better. There’s something luxurious about sliding into fragrant, freshly washed sheets at night or wrapping up in a fresh, fluffy towel after a hot bath. However, most scented detergents, fabric softeners, and dryer sheets are loaded with chemicals and may not fit your household’s values or may irritate sensitive skin.
HEAR: Our FIRST 5 Senses Friday Poll! Cruel Summer. What is your pick??! Growing up in the 80’s, we personally think there is nothing better than driving in summer with the windows down and Cruel Summer from Bananarama blaring from the speakers. The nostalgia of the song from the Karate Kid soundtrack holds a special place in our hearts, but we also gotta love some Taylor!
TOUCH: Coastal Grandmother Style. As a postpartum Doula and a Reiki practitioner, my (Theresa) uniform is comfort and washable. Movable, durable items like my linen pants and tshirts that cross into my everyday wear. It was brought to my attention that my “style” fell into the category of coastal grandmother, which felt hilarious because oh, the labels we create. But I guess it’s true, and I embrace it with my personal revision of being a Gen Xer with a splash of Boho. Give me my dresses and boots, jeans and comfy shirts, and my sneakers. Most of it not too far off from where I’ve landed fashion-wise most of my life. Trends will come and go with the hot thing in my feed right now being the anti-trend trend. Inspiration can be found everywhere (I like to find mine on Who What Wear) but what looks good is what feels good.

in the NEWS…reducing the pain of IUD insertion
More and more women are choosing the intrauterine device (IUD) as a method of contraception, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. However, it's well known that the insertion process can be extremely painful, and effective pain relief is not often provided by doctors.
“In new contraceptive guidance published this week, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention gave updated recommendations for clinicians on how to help manage the pain some people may have when the devices, known as IUDs, are inserted. Lidocaine “might be useful for reducing patient pain” when injected as a local anesthetic or applied topically as a numbing gel, cream or spray, the CDC said in the update, the first since 2016. The CDC also recommends doctors inform all patients about potential pain and personalize IUD placement and pain management plans for each individual.” Read the full article here.
